FLORENCE EDWARDS THOMAS, California

A memorial service honoring Florence Edwards Thomas was held Thursday, Feb. 4, 1982, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Palo Alto, Calif. Mrs. Thomas died Jan. 31, 1982, at Pilgrim Haven Retirement Center near Palo Alto following a stroke on Jan. 2.

Florence was born in Illinois on Sept. 24, 1902 to Gaylord and Maude Heaton Edwards. She was reared on a farm near Winterset, Iowa, where she received her education. She was married to Dale Thomas on July 30, 1922, and they moved to Palo Alto, Calif., in 1924. Mrs. Thomas worked with her husband in the Auto Upholstery business on High Street until their retirement in 1965.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother. Surviving are her son, Dr. Sherman Thomas, who is employed as an Educational Psychologist for Bakersfield (Calif.) City Schools; two sisters, Marian Miller of Iowa and Eleanor Stegeman of Texas; a brother, Irvin Edwards of Winterset; and two grandsons.

The body was cremated, and ashed scattered over the Sierra-Nevada Mountains as were her husband's.
