William A. Lytle, one of Winterset's most highly respected citizens, died here last Saturday after years of failing health. He was 61 years of age.

Mr. Lytle was born at St. Charles on March 19, 1883, the son of James M. and Melisa Porter Lytle. As a young man he moved to Des Moines, then to Macedonia, and then back to Madison county where he spent the last 32 years of his life.

He was married to Martha Allen Johnson of St. Charles in 1905. They were the parents of four children, a son and three daughters. His wife died in 1932, and his only son, Ralph J. Lytle, died in 1936.

Mr. Lytle served as caretaker for the Winterset Country club for 16 years, and following that he operated a dairy for six years. Recently he had been serving as custodian of the First Baptist and First Presbyterian churches here.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lyla Wasson of Booneville, Mrs. Martha Frey of Ft. Wright, N. J., and Roseann Lytle at home. He also leaves a brother, Fred Lytle of Des Moines, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Anderson Home for Funerals in charge of the Rev. Arthur Mortenson, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Caretaker Of Country Club Here For Sixteen Years, Long Illness

William Albert Lytle died March 10, following a lingering illness of several years. Had he lived, he would have been 62 years old March 19. He was born at St. Charles, March 19, 1883, son of James M. and Melisa (Porter) Lytle, and has spent the last 32 years of his life in Madison county.

When only sixteen, he united with the Church of Christ.

He was married to Martha Ellen Johnson of St. Charles in 1905, and to this union four children were born: one son, Ralph J., And three daughters, Lyla, Martha and Roseann. His wife preceded him in death in 1932, and his son also died nine years ago.

Mr. Lytle served as caretaker of the Winterset Country Club for sixteen years and for the next six years operated a dairy. Due to failing health he moved to Winterset, and at the time of his death was custodian of the First Baptist and First Presbyterian churches.

Survivors include his three daughters, Lyla Wasson of Boonville, Martha Frey of Fort Wright, New York and Roseann of Winterset; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lois Lytle of Des Moines; a brother Fred also of Des Moines and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 14, at the Anderson home for funerals, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Arthur Mortensen was in charge of the services. Interment was held in the Winterset cemetery.
