James Lester Smith, a life-long resident of Madison county, died Feb. 20 at his home south of St. Charles. He was 58 years of age.

Mr. Smith was the son of J. S. and Mary Smith, and was born April 12, 1886, in Scott township. He lived on the home farm all his life until 10 years ago, when he moved to his recent home south of St. Charles.

He was married Feb. 4, 1908, to Mabel Allen of Scott township. They were the parents of six children, all of whom survive.

In addition to his wife, he leaves the children, Harold Smith of St. Charles, Dale Smith of Winterset, James Smith and Mrs. Esther Read of Truro, Mrs. Irma Scrivner at home, and Mrs. Edna Honnold of Lorimor. He also leaves nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the St. Charles Methodist church last Friday in charge of the Rev. Arthur Weed. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
