A native of Madison County, Lula Breeding James, 98, died Thursday, March 11, 1976, at Ontario Nursing Home in Ontario, California, where she was a resident.

The daughter of Miller Breeding and Alice McMichael Breeding, Mrs. James was born August 31, 1877, in Madison County. She lived here approximately 90 years.

Affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, Mrs. James was a school teacher, a housewife and for years served as a companion to the elderly. Her marriage to Harry James took place in 1903 in Madison County.

Survivors include one daughter, Ethel Hammer of Houston, Texas; three sons, Donald James, Rodell R. James and Everett A. James, all of California; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild; also one sister, Ruth Peak of Winterset.

Mrs. James was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1918, five brothers, two sisters and two children.

Funeral services for Lula James were conducted Wednesday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, the Rev. Paul Bousfield presiding.

Burial was made at the Union Chapel Cemetery.
