Death of Richard James

Richard or "Dick" James, as he was best known among his friends, died Sunday in Des Moines, following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. James was well known in the south part of this county, from whence he moved to Peoria, Illinois, about two years ago. He moved back to Des Moines just a few weeks since.

He was about forty years of age, leaves a wife, two children by a former marriage four sisters and one brother reside in this county, Mrs. John Lathrum of Saint Charles, Mrs. Robt. Simmons of Peru and Oliver James of Winterset.

Funeral services were held at Union Chapel near Patterson on Tuesday.

COUNTY NEWS – Hanley

The body of Dick James, formerly of this vicinity, was brought here last Tuesday.

Coordinator's note: This is "Melvin Warren James" who, according to descendants, went by "Dick". The "Richard" published in this obituary was probably an assumption by the newspaper when they were informed that "Dick James" had died.
