Death of A. R. Dabney

Former Winterset Attorney Dies at Home in Oakland, California

A telegram received here announced the death of A. R. Dabney at his home in Oakland, California, on Thursday of last week (June 12). No further particulars are available at this time. The announcement of his death was a shock to his friends here, none of whom has been apprised of his illness.

He was one of the early settlers of Madison county, coming here with his parents in 1857 at the age of thirteen years. He enlisted in the 13th Iowa infantry and served in the nation’s service until the close of the war. After completing his education, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1873 and practiced law in Winterset until removing to California, about twelve years ago. For many years he was one of the leading practitioners in this county, and was prominent in politics, affiliating with the democratic party. He was elected to the lower house of the state legislature of the 20th and 21st general assembly. In the practice of law, he was for a number of years, associated in partnership with John A. Guiher and later with W. S. Cooper.

His surviving family are Mrs. Dabney and four daughters, two of whom are married and two residing at home.
