Wednesday, November 15, 1944Otho Witt, a long time resident of Madison county, died last Monday evening, Nov. 6th at a Winterset nursing home. He was nearly 84 years of age, and had been in poor health for some time.
Mr. Witt, the son of James and Sarah Witt, was born Nov. 17, 1860, in Webster township, in this county. His entire life was spent in Madison county, with the exception of three years, when he resided in South Dakota. When a small child, his father was killed in the Civil war.
Mr. Witt was married to Miss Mary Johnston Sept. 23, 1884, and they lived on a farm until 25 years ago, when they moved to Macksburg. Mrs. Witt died six years ago. They were the parents of three sons and a daughter, all of whom survive him: Ora Witt and Mrs. Letha Pindell of Macksburg, Arch Witt of Lorimor, and Ray Witt of Creston. He also leaves seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, one half sister, Mrs. Jane McMurchie of Centerville, S. Dak., and a half brother, Ira Davis of Wakonda, S. Dak.
The Rev. J. E. Englund conducted his funeral services which were held Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9th, at the Methodist church in Macksburg, and burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
