Mrs. McKee, the former Elizabeth Bateman, was born in Ohio, Sept. 23, 1849. Later the family moved to a farm near Wyoming, in Stark county, Ill., and there she was married to Jonathan McKee, Feb. 2, 1875. They came to Madison county that same month, and purchased a farm in Grand River township, which was their home for many years. Mr. McKee died in 1890.

Four children survive Mrs. McKee: Mrs. Chauncey Miller of Winterset, Roy McKee of Clyde Park, Mont., L. C. McKee of Macksburg, and Mrs. Addie Smith of Spencer. Two children preceded the mother in death, Mrs. Verne Guthrie and John McKee, who died in March, 1943. Mrs. McKee joined the Methodist church when she was a girl, and was an active member as long as her health would permit.
