Funeral services for Harry D. Helm, a former resident of the Oak Grove community in Madison county, were held Dec. 20 from the Methodist church in Greenfield. The Rev. R. A. McBlain conducted the services. Burial was made in Wight cemetery in Madison county.
Mr. Helm was 77 years of age at his death. He was a native of Lee county, where he was born at West Point on Dec. 27, 1877, a son of William and Mary Helm. His early life was spent in Lee county, where he was married in 1903 to Jennie Wilson of West Point. They were parents of two children, Darrell and Delores. The wife and mother died in 1908.
Later, Mr. Helm went to St. Louis, where he worked in a packing plant and in a greenhouse for nearly 20 years.
In 1927 he returned to Iowa to make his home in Madison county with his brother, Elmer Helm. He was married here, in 1933, to Mabel McCaslen. They were parents of six children, one son dying in childhood.
Since their marriage, they had made their home in Madison and Adair counties.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Darrel Helm of Maywood, Calif., Richard Helm of Newton, Dale and Gale Helm at home; three daughters, Delores of Maywood, Calif., Charlene of Van Meter, and Mary Louise of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; two grandsons; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer Helm of Winterset, Meredith Helm of Kansas City, Kan., and W. B. Helm of West Point; and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Wallace of Baldwin Park, Calif.
