Year of Failing Health Ends for Life-Long Resident of County
Charles F. Hymes, life-long resident of Madison county died at the state hospital in Iowa City Sunday, Dec. 4. He had been in failing health for the last year and entered the hospital four days prior to his death. He was 73 years of age.
Mr. Hymes was born in Winterset Sept. 23, 1876, the son of Milton and Elizabeth Hymes. He lived for some time at Patterson, and for many years had resided in Douglas township.
He was married Oct. 15, 1907 to Harriet Addy, who preceded him in death. Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Alice Putney of New London, Mrs. Lillian Barnes of Collins, Mrs. Edna Taylor of Winterset, Mrs. Vergie Leeper and Mrs. Phyllis Howell of Des Moines and Maxine and Mondeva Hymes at home. An infant son also preceded him in death.
He also leaves two brothers, Roy and Lawrence Hymes of Winterset; and two sisters, Florence Hymes of Des Moines and Mrs. Nellie Quantence of California; and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this Wednesday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. Howard Washburn. Burial was made in the McDonald cemetery.
