Old Settler Dies

Surrounded by a community who loved and respected him, Judge Jas H. Hurst, answered the final call at nine thirty last Friday morning. All of his family were at his bedside when the end came and all of his brothers and sisters with one exception. It was a most peaceful ending and came like a benediction to a life well spent, endeared to his friends by its unselfishness and honesty. The world is better for having known Jim Hurst.

James H. Hurst was born in Andrew county, Missouri, May 31 1845. Died at his home in Almena at 9:30 A. M., February 17, 1911, age sixty-five years, eight months and sixteen days."

The above is a portion of the obituary notice that appeared in last week's Almena Plaindealer and shows in what high esteem the deceased was held by his fellow townsmen and neighbors. He was the father of Mrs. Ella Bancroft.
