George Eldon Hunt, Des Moines

George Eldon Hunt, 78, of Des Moines died Jan. 18, 1999 at Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery with military graveside services performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142 of Winterset. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

George Hunt was born Sept. 6, 1920 to Erwin and Leona (Sumpter) Hunt of Pitzer. He married Marjorie Marie Euritt in Union County. George was an Army veteran of World War II. A retired heavy equipment operator, he had lived in Winterset for 22 years before moving to Des Moines two years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son and one brother.

He is survived by two sons, Karl Hunt Martin of Oakland, Calif., and Shelby Hunt of Des Moines; three daughters, Linda Martin (husband Warren) of New Providence, Glenda Jean Rogers (husband Gary) of Des Moines and Kathy Hunt Martin of Yreka, Calif.; one brother, Lyle Fish of St. Charles; and six grandchildren.
