Winterset Madisonian - Wed. July 5, 1944
Mrs. Ed Chase, whose entire life was spent in Madison county until she moved into Dexter three years ago, died Monday morning at her home in Dexter. She was 71 years of age and had been ill just a week.
Mrs. Chase was born in Douglas township on Aug. 15, 1872. She was the former Anna Applegate, daughter of Andrew and Annie Thompson Applegate. She was married Oct. 13, 1892, to Ed Chase. Their active years were spent in farming in Jackson and Penn townships.
They were the parents of three children, Mrs. Mabel Black, who died 8 years ago, Mrs. Hazel Athey of Dexter, and Verl A. Chase of Winterset, both of whom survive. The husband and father died five years ago.
Funeral arrangements had not been made definitely here when the death was reported, but it was thought they would be held either Wednesday or Thursday from the Dexter Methodist church, with burial in the Chase-McDonald cemetery in Douglas township.
