DR. ROBERT DAVISSON, Winterset Physician 52 Years Succumbs

He Had Practiced Medicine In This Community Since 1890

Dr. Robert R. Davisson, a life-long resident of Winterset and a practicing physician in this community for 52 years, died at the Winterset hospital Tuesday after a few weeks' illness.

Doctor Davisson was for many years one of the leading physicians in Winterset, and was the son of Dr. David D. Davisson, one of the most widely-known pioneer physicians in this part of Iowa. He came of a distinguished family. His grandfather, Dr. David D. Davisson, Sr., also a physician, was a prominent citizen of Virginia, serving as a surgeon in the Virginia militia in the War of 1812. The latter's father emigrated to Virginia from Scotland after serving as an officer in the British army.

Doctor Davisson was born in Winterset on Oct. 10, 1865, and was 76 years of age at the time of his death. He was the son of Dr. David and Mary Jenkins Davisson. He attended the Winterset schools, and as a youth worked in a local printing office a short time before entering the Keokuk Medical college to study medicine. After one year there he entered Rush Medical college in Chicago, where he graduated with the degree of M. D. in 1890. He immediately returned to Winterset to start the practice of medicine, to which he devoted his life here.

Dr. Davisson has no near surviving relatives. His parents died many years ago, and his two brothers and one sister died in infancy or childhood.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

The funeral services will be conducted with Masonic ritual. A request has been issued for all Masons to meet at the Masonic hall at 1:30 p.m.
