BEV SANDERSON, Winterset

Bev Sanderson, 71, of Winterset died of cancer Sept. 22, 2003, at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Burial will be at Union Chapel Cemetery in Madison County.

Bev Sanderson was born Nov. 25, 1931, to Paul W. and Esta May (Morris) Bishop of Des Moines. A 1950 graduate of East High School in Des Moines, Bev moved to Winterset in 1967, having previously resided in Des Moines; Hawaii, Corpus Christi, Texas; Ankara, Turkey, Dahlgren Va.; and Denmark. On Nov. 24, 1978, she married Avery Sanderson in Winterset.

She had been a retired loan officer and marketing director at Farmers & Merchants State Bank, where she worked her way up from teller to bank manager. Bev was a member of the American Women's Club, the Appletree Players (founding member), the Madison County Association for Special People (lifetime member), the Democratic party, church choir, Modern Women's Club, several outreach committees, the Winterset Cemetery Board (secretary), the Election Board, First United Methodist Church and the Iowa State Commission for Mentally Handicapped/Mentally Retarded Facilities. She established Farmers & Merchants State Bank's Money Tree Savings and Heritage Clubs and was a Campfire Girl, Sunday School and Youth leader.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul W. Bishop.

She is survived by her mother, Esta Bishop of Winterset; her husband, Avery, of Winterset; a son, Scott P. Tish and Pam of Edgerton, Wis.; two daughters, Dawn Ann Ingram and Bob of Kansas City, Mo., and Joy L. (Tish) Milligan of Winterset and children Katie and Daniel; a brother, Bill Bishop and Sheila of Goldsboro, N.C.; a sister, Betty Lincoln and Lyle of Winterset; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and stepchildren Evelyn, Dave, Sue and Vicki.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
