Keith L. Hughes, 73, of Winterset died of heart failure Feb. 6, 2000, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Memorial services were held today (Wednesday, Feb. 9) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with Pastor Steve Koch officiating. There will be no visitation. A private burial will take place at Wight Cemetery in Webster Township, Madison County, where military rites will be performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.
Keith Hughes was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Adair County to Ralph and Lila (Mayes) Hughes. A World War II veteran, he served on the ship SS Hannibal Victory from 1944-46. He married Mary Accordino on May 21, 1959 in Des Moines. A resident of Winterset since 1975, he had worked as a meat cutter in Guthrie Center. Keith was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 of Winterset and the U.S. Navy Armed Guard for World War II veterans.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, David Hughes (wife Ann) of Orient and Anthony Hughes and Jerry Hughes (wife Heather) both of Winterset; two daughters, Mary Slavin (husband Tim) and Debbie Rice (husband Tim) both of Winterset and 12 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his family.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service of Winterset.
