Fred M. Hudson, Winterset

Fred Marion Hudson, 89, of Winterset died of cancer Dec. 21, 1998, at his residence.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Patterson United Methodist Chhrch with Pastor Jon Gaul officiating. Family burial of the cremains took place in the Montpelier Cemetery in Patterson.

Fred Hudson was born June 6, 1909 in Winterset to Fred and Bessie (Mendelhall) Hudson. He married Gertrude Loretta Wildin on April 9, 1933 at Winterset. He lived in Madison County most of his life, except from 1947-79, when he resided in Creston. A retired farmer, airport owner and operator and welding shop machinist, he also operated and instructed a G.I. flight training school at the Creston airport. Fred was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Creston and the Patterson United Methodist Church. He also served six years on the CrestonSchool Board and started the Creston Cozy Camp Club.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Koser Dean Hudaon (wife Bernice) of Niobrara, Neb.; three daughters, Jane Schweer (husband Darol) of Urbandale, Susan Jensen of Chehalis, Wash., and Bonnie Forsyth (husband Michael) of Winterset; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Patterson United Methodist Church or Middle River Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home of Winterset.
