Otis Alva Huddleson, 89, of Winterset died of multiple organ failure Sept. 16, 2001, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 20, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with the Rev. Robert Cooper officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142, both of Winterset.
Otis Huddleson was born Feb. 9, 1912 to George Andrew and Wilma Margret (Maas) Huddleson of Cumberland. An Army veteran of World War II he had been a farmer and carpenter. On June 19, 1970, he married Opal A. (Cooper) Hartman in Winterset. Otis had lived in Madison County since 1970, having previously resided in Cumberland and Massena. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 8142 in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Mona Huddleson) an infant son, a brother, an infant sister and a brother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Opal, of Winterset; two daughters, Linda Schmidt of Garden City, Kan., and Sherry Slycord of Gilbert, S.C., two stepsons, Dale Hartman and Steve Hartman, both of Winterset; a foster son, Kenneth Kiser of Ankeny; two stepdaughters, Mary Johnson of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Viola Younker of Waukee; a brother, Arlie Huddleson (wife Marie) of Stuart; a sister, Esther Smart of Corning; a sister-in-law, Elaine Huddleson of Atlantic; 14 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
