Delbert Eli Howell, 65, of Winterset died of cancer July 29, 1999 at Des Moines General Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with Pastor Steve Koch officiating. Burial was in Montpelier Cemetery, Crawford Township, Madison County.
Delbert Howell was born March 28, 1934, to Carroll Franklin and Maude Magdeline (Lamb) Howell of Prole. He grew up in the Prole and Truro areas and resided in rural Dallas County before making his permanent residence in Jefferson Township, Madison County.
On Sept. 4, 1955, he married Beulah Jean Beedle at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset. In April of 1957 he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving until 1959. Delbert was employed with the Marquette and Monarch Cement Companies of Des Moines and was a member of the Cement, Lime and Gypsum Workers' Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Connie Sue Ascione (husband James) and Deborah Jean Zacharias (husband Thomas) both of Winterset; three sisters, Ethel Mae Lamb of Winterset, Margaret Jean Sanford of DeSoto and Geraldine Marie Lee of rural Winterset; two brothers, Doyle Franklin Howell of Literberry, Ill., and Morris Eugene Howell of rural Winterset; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to a fund which has been established in Mr. Howell's name.
