CLARA OVERDYK, Polk City

Clara Louise Overdyk, 83, of Polk City and former Winterset resident, died Aug. 11, 2005, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 15, at the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset with the Rev. Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Douglas Township, Madison County.

Clara Overdyk was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Chariton to Fred and Maude Myrtle (Holder) Borger. On July 10, 1949, she married Andrew John Overdyk in Chariton. A longtime resident of Winterset, Clara had been a teacher and also worked for the Matura Action Corporation as a social worker. She was a member AARP, Nazarene World Mission Society and the Church of the Nazarene in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Harold Borger; and a sister, Dorothy Borger.

She is survived by four sons, Rick Borger of Milwaukee, Wis., Ed Overdyk of Minneapolis, Minn., Bill Overdyk of Polk City and Howard Overdyk of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Andrea Overdyk of Winterset, Evie Arnold of Des Moines and Linda Barrett of Polk City; two brothers, Lyle Borger of Nampa, Idaho, and the Rev. Fred Borger of Des Moines; a sister, Myrtle Mezo of Shirley, Ark.; and 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
