Mrs. Mary J. Hartfield, long-time resident of the Bevington community, died last Friday at the home of Mrs. Rena Shannon in St. Charles, where she had been living recently. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. Hartfield was born near Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 19, 1867, the daughter of James and Nancy McMichael. Her mother died when she was 2 years of age and she was reared in the home of her grandparents near Bevington.

She joined the Presbyterian church near Patterson in early life, later transferring to the United Presbyterian church in St. Charles.

She was married Feb. 19, 1896, to George Hartfield. They were the parents of five children, three of whom preceded the mother in death. Mr. Hartfield died in 1932.

Surviving are the son, Thomas Hartfield, of Prole; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Rhoads of Winterset; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harley Beerbower of Winterset, and Mrs. Earl Allen of Prole, and a brother, Thomas McMichael of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the St. Charles United Presbyterian church, and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery near Patterson.
