Vincent Howard, Truro

Vincent Wayne Howard, 79, of Truro, died of a respiratory ailment Aug. 9, 1997 at the Community Care Center in Winterset. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at the St. Charles Parish Church. The Rev. Ed Poston and Bill Hough will officiate the services and burial will be at the St. Charles Cemetery.

He was born in St. Charles to Esmond E. and Jennie E. (Wise) Howard. He was a graduate of St. Charles High school. He married Catherine Scully in Des Moines on June 17, 1945. He was a rubber worker with Armstrong Tire and had retired in 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army with the 168th Infantry, the 34th Division and served in the Algerian, Tunisian and Italian Campaigns, earning three Bronze Stars. He was a lifelong resident of Madison County. He was a member of the VFW Post #8142 in Winterset and a member of the St. Charles Parish Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, one in infancy.

Surviving relatives include his wife; one daughter, Elizabeth Carpenter and husband Gerald of Cleburne, Texas; three sons, Dennis Howard and friend Marilyn of New Virginia, Brian Howard and wife Susan of Des Moines, and Richard Howard and wife Marchele of St. Charles; two brothers, Elmer Howard of Indianola and Richard Howard of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
