Wednesday, January 17, 1945Tractor Accident at Miles City, Mont., Dec. 24 Proves Fatal
Jack J. Clarkson, 28 year-old Winterset citizen, died Monday morning in a hospital at Miles City, Mont., as the result of injuries sustained in an accident on Dec. 24.
Clarkson had been working on a government construction project near Miles City. His fatal injuries occurred when the caterpillar tractor he was driving rolled over on him. His wife and his father, John Clarkson of Winterset, were at his bedside when he died.
Mr. Clarkson was born at Winterset on Jan. 1, 1917, the son of John and Merle Benham Clarkson. His mother died when he was a small boy. His entire life was spent in this community, with the exception of the last few years when he was engaged in government construction work. He had returned last year from Alaska and the Aleutian islands.
He was married on July 11, 1938, to Mary Frey. They have one son, Jack, Jr., aged 5.
In addition to his wife, son, and father, he is survived by his step-mother; two sisters, Mrs. Ray McDonald of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Henry Monson of Central City, Nebr.; two brothers, Harold and Robert Clarkson, both of whom are serving with the U.S. navy, in the southwest Pacific; one half brother, Phillip Clarkson; and three half-sisters, Darlene, Barbara, and Irene Clarkson, all at home.
Funeral services will be held here but arrangements had not been made as the Madisonian went to press.

Early ChapelMr. and Mrs. Elza Waugh attended the funeral Sunday, in Winterset, of Jack Clarkson, a brother-in-law of Mrs. Waugh, who was killed while working on a government construction project, when the caterpillar tractor he was driving upset and rolled over on him.
