OSCAR WILLIAM JOHNSTON

Oscar William Johnston, son of John and Fannie Johnston, was born December 13, 1888, in Madison county, Iowa, and passed away on September 26, 1968, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital at Winterset.

On January 7, 1908, he was united in marriage to Mabel Beaver. To this union were born two children: Kenneth Johnston and Lela York.

They made their home in Oklahoma for six and one-half years, then returned to Adair County, Iowa, for a year. They moved to Earlham and were engaged in farming for approximately fifty years until he suffered a stroke in 1965. At that time, they moved in Earlham where he lived until his death. He suffered a heart attack September 22. He was a member of the Early Chapel Christian church.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Johnston of Cathedral City, California; a daughter, Lela York of Downey, California; a step daughter, Mrs. Merritt Harris of Earlham; a sister, Bessie Ingle of Shattuck, Oklahoma; a sister, Ivah Stanley, Cupertino, California; grandchildren, Ted, Roy and Don Harris; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Claire, of Stuart.
