Mable (Mabel) Beaver, daughter of Joseph William and Minnie Morgan Beaver, was born September 9, 1886, in Shelby county, Iowa. He parents moved to Marion county, then later to Adair county, south of Adair, where she lived and attended school.
Mable (Mabel) was united in marriage to Clyde Campfield and to this union one daughter, Atholl, was born. Later she was divorced.
On January 7, 1908, she was united in marriage to Oscar William Johnston, and to this union two children were born: a son Kenneth, who preceded his mother in death December 17, 1972; and a daughter, Lela.
Mabel and Oscar lived in Oklahoma for nearly seven years, later moving to Adair county, then to Madison county near Earlham where they continued to live and farm for nearly fifty years. She was a member of the Early Chapel Christian church near Earlham.
In 1957, Mabel suffered a severe heart attack, but recovered satisfactorily and was able to continue that which she loved a great deal-flowers and gardening.
In 1965 Mabel and Oscar moved into Earlham shortly after Oscar suffered a stroke, and in 1968 he suffered a fatal heart attack.
During the past five years, she had been in ill health; however, was able to enjoy her home and care for herself, until stricken with a fatal heart attack on November 9.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Merritt Harris of Earlham, a daughter, Mrs. Lela York of Downey, California; a sister, Mrs. Vera Butler of Earlham; three grandsons, Ted Harris, Roy Harris and Don Harris of or near Earlham; several great grandchildren; a host of relatives, friends and neighbors.
