GERHART JURGENSEN

Gerhart Hans Henry Jurgensen, the son of Carl and Marie Jurgensen, was born in Klienbrothersby, near Schleswig, Germany.

He came to this country in 1907 accompanied by his parents, sisters and brothers. They resided near Ogden, Iowa, several years in Minnesota, and then settled northwest of De Soto, Iowa.

On May 31, 1924, he was united in marriage to Anna Bundtzen in Des Moines. They were blessed with four sons and six daughters, all of whom are living.

Gerhart was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church near Van Meter. He enjoyed going to church and his faith was strong. One of his greatest pleasures was to make friends and his last day was spent visiting friends and relatives.

He experienced failing health the past two yeas and departed this life on Tuesday morning, August 24, at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 18 days.

He is survived by his children; Ida Mapes of Earlham; Dan of Grand Island, Nebraska; Chuck of Dexter; Mrs. Irene Houghtaling of Indianola; Mrs. Louise Wells of Island City, Oregon; Mrs. Joan Broker of Des Moines; Bill of Winterset; Mrs. Lucy Clark of Norwalk; Robert of De Soto; Mrs. Patsy Radtke of Portage, Wisconsin; one sister, Mrs. Martha Kast of St. Paul, Minnesota; thirty-one grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, one sister Anna, and two brothers, Herman and Gustav.
