Wednesday, January 3, 1945Charles N. Bruett, one of Madison county's most widely known farmers, died last Friday after an illness that began Dec. 16. He was 75 years of age.
Mr. Bruett was born near Earlham on Sept. 30, 1869, the son of Otto and Sarah Bruett. He lived all his life, with the exception of four years in Nebraska, in Madison county.
He was united in marriage to Devond Edna Cline on Oct. 17, 1899. They lived near Earlham for eight years, then moved to Scott township where he spent the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Kirby, Mrs. Zola Gentry, Mrs. Fred Grukle, and Mrs. Margaret DeVault, all of Winterset; four sons, Otis Bruett of Murray, Charles Bruett at home, Harold Bruett of Winterset, and Corp. Clifford Bruett of the U.S. army; two grandchildren who were reared in his home, Mrs. Maxine Hart of Winterset, and Pvt. Leon Hardy of the U.S. army, who is a prisoner of war in Germany; nine other grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two brothers, William Bruett of Long Beach, Calif., and George Bruett of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Laura Reid of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday from Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Chas. Nathan Bruett was born near Earlham, Iowa September 30, 1869. The 4th child of Otto and Sarah Williams and departed this life December 29, 1944 at the age of 75 years and 3 months, after suffering a stroke on December 16th and another occurring 12 days later.
He lived all his life in Madison county with the exception of 4 years which he spent in Nebraska,.
In early life he joined the Early Chapel of Christ. He was united in marriage to DeVond Edna Cline October 17th, 1899 and made their home on the farm where he was born 8 years after which they moved to Scott Township and lived their the remainder of his life.
To this union 8 children were born, 4 girls and 5 boys. Mrs. Mary B. Kirby, Mrs. Zola C. Gentry, Mrs. Fred G. Grukle and Mrs. Margaret J. DeVault, all of Winterset. Otis Bruett of Murray, Chas. Bruett of Winterset, Harold W. Bruett of Winterset, Clifford P. Bruett in the armed forces, located at the Rocky Mt. Arsenal at Denver, Colorado.
He leaves his wife, 8 children and two grand-children who were reared in the home, Maxine Hart. Leon Hardy is now a prisoner of war in Germany.
There are 9 other grand-children and two great-grand-children.
He leaves two brothers, William A. Bruett of Long Beach, Calif. and George Bruett of Winterset and one sister, Mrs. Laura Reid of Winterset.
Funeral services were held New Year’s Day, January 1, 1945 at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Foglesong, minister of the Winterset Church of Christ was in charge. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
