MRS. WILBUR HOWARD OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Mrs. Wilbur Howard of near St. Charles died last Wednesday, March 13, at her home in Jackson township of Warren county. She was 68 years of age.

Mrs. Howard was the former Cara L. Sanders, daughter of Joseph and Harriet Sanders. She was born in Warren county, near Murray, and was a life-long resident of the county.

She was a member of the Christian church.

Surviving are her husband; five children, Mrs. Thelma Bradshaw of Martensdale, Ronald Allen of Carlisle, Mrs. Helen Tomlinson of Des Moines, Mrs. Mildred Miller of St. Charles and Donald Allen of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers, Merle and Joe Sanders of Des Moines and a sister, Mrs. Mary Hayden of Peru.

Funeral services were held Saturday in charge of the Rev. Howard Cho of St. Charles. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Cara Howard

Cara Levra Sanders, daughter of Joseph Z. and Harriett Gaumer Sanders, was born March 25, 1894 in Murray and departed this life, March 13, 1963, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 16 days.

She lived a few years in Ottumwa then moved to Clarke county, where she finished her schooling, and taught in the Clarke county schools.

She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour, at the age of 17 years, and placed membership with the Church of Christ, in Murray.

On Oct. 19, 1912 she was untied in marriage to Chester Lee Allen, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1953. To this union was born 2 sons and 3 daughters: Ronald Allen of Carlisle, Donald Allen of Des Moines, Thelma Bradshaw of Martensdale, Helen Tomlinson of Des Moines and Mildred Miller of St. Charles.

On Oct. 14, 1956 Cara was united in marriage to Wilbur Howard, living in the Martensdale and St. Charles communities since.

Five grandchildren, and one sister preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Wilbur Howard; her children, Donald, Ronald, Thelma, Helen, and Mildred; two daughters-in-law, Ardis and Dola Reis; three sons-in-law, Joe Bradshaw, Frank Miller and Duane Tomlinson; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; six step-children, Harold, Arnold, Frank, Earnest and Gilbert Howard and Ruby Miller; 23 step grandchildren, and several step great grandchildren.

Cara leaves two brothers and one sister, Merle Sanders of Sac City; Joe Sanders of Des Moines, and Mary Hayden of Peru, and a host of other relatives and friends.

To know her was to love her, as she was a friend to all who knew her.

Services were held March 16 at the Methodist church, in St. Charles, with Rev. Howard Cho in charge. Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery.
