Wednesday, October 2, 1942A. C. (Arthur) Barr, aged 77 years, died at the Winterset hospital Tuesday night after an illness of six weeks. He had been in failing health for several years.
Mr. Barr was a native of Ohio, where he was born at Mansfield, the son of Joseph and Eliza Ann Barr. He came to Madison county as a young man, and here he was married on April 1, 1890, to Anna M. Sawhill.
Mr. Barr's active years were spent in farming in Jackson, and later in Douglas townships.
Immediate relatives are his wife; and six children: Mrs. Howard Criss of Lorimor, Glen Barr of Cromwell, Mrs. Hazel Cox of Winterset, Lloyd Barr of Winterset; Mrs. Bessie Hooper of Winterset; and Mrs. Elsie Benton of Canton, S. Dak. He also leaves one brother, Charles D. Barr of Dexter.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from Anderson's home for funerals, and burial will be made in the Penn Center cemetery.

Longtime Farmer Of Madison County. Wife, Six Children Survive.
Arthur Barr, longtime resident of Madison county, died at the Winterset hospital Monday evening, following an illness of only six weeks. He was 77 years of age.
Arrangements had not been made for the funeral services when The News went to press Wednesday.
Arthur Barr was born in Mansfield, Ohio, January 27, 1865, the son of Joseph and Eliza Ann Barr. When a small boy he came to Madison county with his parents and they made their home on a farm west of Winterset. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Annice Sawhill of Winterset, and they were the parents of six children, four daughters and two sons.
He united in membership with the United Presbyterian church. Barr spent most of his life farming in Madison county and was active in his work until six weeks ago when he became ill and entered the hospital.
He is survived by his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Howard Criss of Lorimor, Elsie Benson of Canton, South Dakota; Hazel Cox and Bessie Cooper both of Winterset, two sons, Glen Barr of Cromwell and Lloyd Barr of Winterset, sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
