James Caldwell Robinson Wise, son of John Bourbon Wise and Elizabeth Wadell, was born July 4, 1855 at Louisville, Ind., and died at his home near St. Marys, Ia., September 26, 1942, having attained the age of 87 years, 2 months and 22 days.

At the early age of four he moved with his parents to Polk county, Iowa, who settled near Des Moines. He attended the Des Moines schools, however at the early age of 16 he began to work on a farm.

In the year of 1880 on Feb. 5th, he was married to Mary Louise Seibert. To this union eleven children were born, all of whom are living except Eda who died as a child at the age of four.

After his marriage he remained a resident of Polk county for another 22 years. Then for 10 years he and his family made their home in Madison county, in Madison township. Leaving there he settled on a farm near St. Marys, and for the past twenty-one years that farm has since been his home.

He was a confirmed member of the Lutheran church, and was received into membership at the Lutheran church at Grimes.

He took a great interest in his children, and in later years his 30 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

His wife died in 1933. He leaves his ten children: Harry B. Wise of Des Moines, Mrs. Anna Edwards of St. Charles, William C. Wise of St. Charles, Earl of Des Moines, J. C., Jr., of St. Charles, Scott of New Virginia, Mrs. Jenny Howard of St. Charles, Mrs. Marie Archer of Prole, Hulda and Edward of St. Charles.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. E. W. Mueller of Martensdale from the St. Paul's Lutheran church in Martensdale, and at St. Peter's Lutheran church in Grimes last Wednesday afternoon, and burial was made in the Grimes cemetery.
