Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 21 at Union Cemetery in Clarke county for Mary Spick Houston, a former Winterset resident, who died Sept. 17 at Calvin Manor retirement home in Des Moines. She was 94 years old.
Born near Murray on July 3, 1887, she was the daughter of Joseph and Sophia Spick.
For a time she taught school. On Nov. 23, 1923, she married William Houston and later moved to Tulsa, Okla. Mr. Houston died in 1929.
In 1938 she returned to Iowa and lived with her brother Edward in Winterset. Following his death, she entered Calvin Manor.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and eight brothers and sisters. Surviving is a sister, Lila Westerfield of Osceola, and several nieces and nephews.
