GRACIE MAY HUSTED, Truro

Funeral services for Gracie May Husted, 89, were held Sat., June 1, at the Congregational Church of Christ in Truro with the Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera officiating. She died May 29, 1991, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Barney on Sept. 26, 1901 to William and Hester Reel. She married her first husband, Fern Durfey, on February 1, 1923 in Union Town, Pa. They had two children, Bill and Dottie. Fern Durfey died in 1954. She married her second husband, Gene Husted, on May 2, 1971 in Truro. He died in 1982.

Mrs. Husted was a homemaker for most of her life. She also belonged to the Congregational United Church of Christ and a quilters club.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, her children, her parents, three brothers and a sister

Surviving relatives include a son-in-law, Herbert T. Reed of Winterset; a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Durfey Smith, and husband, Chuck, of Truro; three step-daughters, Verna Husted Morford and husband, Fred, of Dexter, Doris Husted Holz and husband, William, of Rippey, Carol Husted Berg of Port Huron, Mich.; three sisters, Dorothy Reed of Perry, Elsie Green of Mitchelville and Mary Marcum of Newburg; eight grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 13 step great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Hartman Cemetery in Truro.

Truro services held for Gracie May Husted

Services were Saturday at the Congregational Church of Christ in Truro for Gracie May Husted, 89, of Truro who died May 29, 1991, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

The Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera of Truro officiated at the 11 a.m. service. Burial was in the Hartman Cemetery with Kale Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Husted, the daughter of William and Hester Sophia Root Reel was born Sept. 26, 1901, at Barney, and attended country schools.

She married Fern Durfey on Feb. 1, 1923, at Union Town, Pa. The couple were the parents of two children. She married Gene Husted on May 2, 1971, at Truro.

A homemaker, Mrs. Husted was a member of the Quilters and the Congregational United Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dottie Reed; a son, Bill Durfey; parents, both husbands; three brothers, Fred, Ora and Russell and a sister, Nellie.

Mrs. Husted is survived by a son-in-law, Herbert T. Reed of Winterset; a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Durfey Smith and her husband, Chuck, of Truro; three stepdaughters, Verna Husted Morford and her husband, Fred, of Dexter, Doris Husted Holz and her husband, William, of Rippey and Carol Husted Berg of Port Huron, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 13 great-step grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Reed of Perry, Elsie Green of Mitchellville and Mary Marcum of Newberg.

Truro

Gracie Durfey Husted, 89, died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, on May 29. Her services were at the Congregational United Church of Christ, on Saturday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m., under the direction of the Rev. Tapiwa Mucherera. Interment was in the Hartman Cemetery, southwest of Truro. The women of the church served the noon meal to her family and friends after the service. Visitation was in the Durfey home on Friday afternoon and evening.
