Wednesday, July 2, 1941Former Resident Killed in Haying Accident Near New Providence
Clarence R. Shoemaker, formerly of Winterset, died at the hospital in Eldora on Tuesday of last week of injuries received in an accident which occurred while he was putting up hay at his farm near New Providence. He was 49 years of age.
Mr. Shoemaker was born near Winterset on Jan. 3, 1892, the son of George and Orlena Shoemaker. At an early age he united with the Winterset Church of Christ, later transferring his membership to the Honey Creek Friends church near New Providence.
He was married to Miss Myrtle Weeks of Des Moines on Nov. 26, 1914. They were the parents of four children, all of whom survive.
He leaves his wife; the four children, Mrs. Roy Freerksor, and Earl, Billy and Betty Shoemaker, all of New Providence; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Shoemaker of Winterset; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Foster of Mapleton, Minn., Mrs. Muriel Freeman and Ruth and Jane Shoemaker of Winterset; and five brothers, Curtis Shoemaker of Kallspell, Mont., Glenn and Ralph Shoemaker of Winterset, Carl Shoemaker of St. Charles, and Donald Shoemaker of Chicago.
Funeral services were held last Friday from the Honey Creek Friends church near New Providence, and burial was made in the cemetery there.
