Mrs. Anna Merrill dies in California

Funeral Services Held in Des Moines with Burial in Winterset

The body of Mrs. Anna Merrill of Des Moines, who died on Wednesday of last week while on a trip to California, will be brought to Winterset for burial in the local cemetery some time this week.

Mrs. Merrill had been on a trip to California with her son, Charles Merrill of Des Moines, when fatally stricken. The body was expected to arrive in Des Moines Wednesday, where funeral services are to be held.

Mrs. Merrill was the former Anna Mardis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Mardis of this community. She was born and reared in Winterset, and was married here to C. O. Merrill. They lived for about two years in Winterset before moving to Des Moines, which had since been her home. Mr. Merrill died last year.

Mrs. Merrill was 56 years of age at the time of her death. She is survived by her son, Charles; and by one brother, Fred Mardis of Winterset.

Mrs. C. O. Merrill Dies In The West

Mrs. C. O. Merrill, sister of Fred Mardis and a former resident of Winterset, died Thursday of last week in a Pomona, California, hospital following a short illness. Mrs. Merrill who was 57 years of age, was on a vacation trip with her son, Charles, who had just been graduated from Iowa State college.

Mrs. Merrill was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Mardis, a member of one of the old families of Winterset. She was born here and graduated from high school in 1904. Mrs. Merrill had lived in Des Moines for thirty years and was a member of the Spanish-American War Veterans auxiliary and the GA chapter of the P. E. O.

Mrs. Merrill was the widow of Charles Merrill, who died in 1940. The only surviving member of the Mardis family is Mrs. Merrill’s brother, Fred Mardis.
