EDWIN VAN HOLLAND, Gilmore City

The Rev. Edwin Glenn Van Holland, 48, of Gilmore City, formerly of Lester, died of cancer Aug. 24, 1999, at the Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Russell Dilley officiating. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Lester with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating.

Edwin Van Holland was born Feb. 18, 1951, to John and Jennie (Lockhorst) Van Holland of Rock Rapids. He grew up on a farm near Lester, graduating from West Lyon Public High School in 1969. He worked for the Ageson Fruniture Store of Lester. On Nov. 27, 1982, he married Rebecca Tolvstad in Lester, Edwin graduated from Sioux Falls College in Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1989 and obtained his masters of divinity degree from the North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls while serving as pastor at the Congregational Church in Doon. Ordained a minister in the Iowa United Methodist Conference in 1991, he served at Macksburg, Hebron, Wesley Chapel and Lorimor, and in 1996 moved to Gilmore City where he served as associate pastor of Faith United Methodist Church until his illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Daniel of Gilmore City; a daughter, Amy of Gilmore City; two brothers, Albert (wife Betty) of Rock Rapids and Gerrit Van Holland of Lester; one sister, Nelva Ageson (husband Robert) of Lester.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
