Scott Township Farmer Had Been Fatally Ill Two Weeks

Earl Welch, well-known resident of Scott township, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 19th at the age of 53 years. Mr. Welch has always made his home near Winterset, had been in poor health for the past two months, and had been seriously ill with a malignant growth for the past two weeks.

The deceased was a son of Sanson and Elizabeth Welch, and was born on the farm where he has since made his home, Oct. 10, 1888.

He was married to Miss Mabel Lucas, Dec. 15, 1909, and they were the parents of six children. He leaves his wife, and five of their children: Roland Welch of Winterset, Mrs. Warren Nair of Peru, and Wayne, Betty and Helen Welch at home. A son, Robert, died in infancy.

He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Welch, and a sister and brother, Mrs. Walter Schoenenberger and Frank Welch, also of this community. Complete funeral arrangements had not been made Wednesday noon, but the services will be held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Friday afternoon, Nov. 21 at 2 o'clock.

E. WELCH, 53, DIES WEDNESDAY

Funeral Services To Be Held Friday Afternoon For Prominent Farmer.

Earl Welch, prominent Madison county farmer, died at his farm home in Scott township Wednesday morning, following a two-month illness. He was 53 years of age.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o’clock in the Ramsey and Richard funeral home with Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Methodist church officiating.

Earl Welch was born October 10, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sanson Welch, on the home place near Zion church. He engaged in farming with his father until his marriage to Mable Lucas, December 15, 1909. They moved on a farm in Scott township where he resided up to the time of his death. They were the parents of six children, one son, Robert, dying in infancy.

He had been in failing health since June when he underwent an operation.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Roland Welch and Wayne Welch, both of Winterset; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Nair of Peru, and Betty and Helen of Winterset; two grandchildren, his aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Welch; one sister, Mrs. Walter Schoenenberger of Peru and one brother, Frank, of Winterset, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
