JAMES VAN GUNDY, Truro

James Alden Van Gundy, 55, of Truro, died July 30, 1996, at his home. Funeral services were held Aug. 2, 1996, at the United Methodist Church in Truro. The Rev. Sandy Mercer officiated the services. Cremation followed the services.

He was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Jamaica, Iowa, to Ralph and Zella (Herrick) Van Gundy. On Oct. 18, 1964, he married Bette Pelz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a farmer and real estate agent, and resided near Truro since 1968. He was a member of the Truro Lions Club, the American Legion at St. Mary's, the Truro United Methodist Church, and served in the United States Air National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Surviving relatives include his wife; six daughters, Rhonda Myers and husband Roger of Truro, Vicki Weller of St. Charles, Sherri Harvey and husband Steven of Des Moines; Valerie Sturtz of Truro, Jacqueline Chess and husband Ross of Ankeny, and Sonja Van Gundy and financee James Schaibel of Wirtz, Va.; seven brothers; two sisters; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
