Death of L. C. Houk

Lester C. Houk, for many years a resident of this place, died Tuesday the 9th, at his home in San Antonio, Texas, as the result of a stroke of paralysis on July 3rd.

His father, I. G. Houk, was one of the pioneers of Madison county, coming here from Holmes county, Ohio in 1850. Some years ago, L. C. Houk, with his wife and daughter, moved to San Antonio on account of the frail health of their only daughter. After the death of the daughter, followed by the mother, Mr. Houk, continued to make his home in San Antonio and remarried.

The body will be brought here for burial, but the time of arrival and arrangement for burial service cannot be determined at this time.

Lester C. Houk, son of I. G. and Mary Campbell Houk, was born in Winterset, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1859 and passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9th, at San Antonio, Texas, as the result of a stroke of paralysis on July 3d. His mother died when he was seven years old.

He was married to Sarah G. McLees in December 1882, who passed away Dec. 9, 1911. Mary, the only child, died Dec. 24, 1907.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a half sister, Nina Wylie Howell of Butte, Mont.; a cousin J. A. Bradley of Centerville, Iowa; Mrs. M. Gamble and Mrs. Thos. Hunter of Winterset, sisters of Mrs. Houk, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Houk made his home at Winterset until about 1911. Since then he has lived in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church of Winterset on Sept. 16th, at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. W. Z. Allen, and attended by many friends of the deceased. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
