LEWIS D. VAN ALSTINE, Stuart

Services for Lewis D. Van Alstine, 66, Stuart, who died at his home Aug. 29, 1984, were held Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Link Funeral Home. Burial was at the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, Ia.

Born Nov. 29, 1917 near Clarinda, he was the son of Lewis George and Bertha Sollars Van Alstine.

In April of 1936 he was married to Virginia Waxmonsky of Clarinda, Iowa and two children were born to this union.

Before his retirement Lewis had been employed by the state of Iowa, caring for the building and grounds of the State Capitol in Des Moines.

On Ocober 2, 1971 he was married to Orpha Derrickson of Earlham, Madison County. In May of this year they moved to their present home in Stuart.

Preceding him in death were his parents and wife Virginia.

Surviving are his wife Orpha; his two children, Joanne (Mrs. Lary Nulph) of Stuart and Larry L. of Aubburn, Ill., three stepchildren, Barbara Clayton of Dallas, Tex., Bob Derrickson of Earlham, and Larry Derrickson of Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandsons; one granddaughter; seven step-granddaughters; one brother Dale of Clarinda; two sisters, Letha Williamson of White Salmon, Washington and Vona Robertson of Solon, Iowa, other relatives and friends.
