Death of W. E. Hartsook

W. E. Hartsook, a prominent and well known farmer of the Ord neighborhood died at the Mercy hospital in Mason City, Thursday, August 27th, after a short illness. Mr. Hartsook had been in poor health and had gone to Rochester for observation. He stopped to visit his daughters in Mason City, and his condition became so critical that it was necessary to operate. No hope was held for his recovery following his operation. The deceased was 66 years of age. He was born in Monroe township; and had lived in this county his entire life, with the exception of a few years when he resided at Indianola, so that his children might attend college.

His marriage to Miss Anna Caroline Greer was an event of January 29, 1894. They are the parents of three children, Lyle of Indianola, Mrs. Fern Addy and Edna both of Mason City, who with the mother survive him. He also leaves his aged mother and two brothers, Frank and Elmer.

Rev. A. F. Darrell of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, conducted his services, at the Ord church, Sunday afternoon, August 30th, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

MORTUARY - W. E. Hartsook

William Emmous Hartsook was born in Monroe township, Madison county, Iowa, May 28, 1865; died in Mercy hospital Mason City, Iowa, August 27, 1931, age 66 years, and 5 months. He has been associated with the Ord community his entire life except for a few years he lived in Indianola. When a mere lad of nine his father died leaving his mother and three sons. Billie was the eldest, Frank and Elmer the younger. Even at this tender age he soon became the standby of his wonderful young mother. These years were marked by hard work and sacrifice. Death found him the same faithful son and loyal brother.

He was married to Anna Caroline Greer January 29, 1894. To them were born three children Lyle of Indianola, Iowa, Mrs. Fern Addy and Edna, both of Mason City.

Billie was a home body. He was a rare comrade and confident of his children and a devoted husband. His great pleasure and pride of his last years were his two grandsons, the sons of Mrs. Addy. Aside from the immediate family he is survived by his aged mother and 2 brothers.

He was converted about twenty years ago during a revival conducted by the Reverends Fair and Martin and united with the Christian Union church.

Billie will be missed in the community. His industry, his unfailing good humor, his quiet unassuming kindness, his neighborly spirit endeared him to many, many friends.

Rev. A. F. Darrell of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, conducted the services at the Blue Front church of Ord Sunday afternoon, August 30th, and interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
