EVERETT CLYDE SWEET, Des Moines

Everett Clyde Sweet, 80, of Des Moines and formerly of Macksburg and Arispe, died Oct. 29, 2004, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Michael Mudloff officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton.

Everett Sweet was born Aug. 16, 1924, to Marion DeRoy and Viola Belle (Blauer) Sweet of Afton. He was a 1942 graduate of Arispe High School. On June 15, 1943, he married Hazel Grace Fesler in Grant City, Mo. Everett spent his first 21 years on the farm, followed by four years in the Navy. For 12 years he worked as a mechanic in Creston and Afton. While residing in Arispe, he owned a grocery business called Sweets Grocery, retiring in September of 1987 following 25 years of service. While living in Macksburg from 1988 to 1990, he worked for Farmers Co-op in Afton. He was a member of the Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale, Masonic Lodge in Afton, a lifetime member of the V.F.W., also in Afton, and a former member of the Odd Fellows.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Francis Sweet.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Sweet of Lansing, Kan., and Greg Sweet of Norwalk; one daughter, Roxanne Smith of Lorimor; and nine grandchildren.
