CLAUDE HOPE DIED THURSDAY

Long-Time Resident Here Was 81 Years of Age at Death

William Claude Hope, a well-known Madison county farmer for many years, died last Thursday, July 7 at a nursing home in Des Moines. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Hope was born in Mahaska county on Feb. 16, 1879 a son of Benjamin and Kathryn Saunders Hope. When he was three weeks old, he moved with his parents to Gaylord, Kan. At the age of 21 years he came to Madison county, living near Winterset most of his active life, except for a few years in Kansas and Nebraska. He moved from here to Des Moines five years ago.

He was married in 1907 to Grace Borden of Republican City, Nebr., who survives him. He also leaves three sons, Leland and Ralph of Winterset and Harold Hope of Waterloo; five daughters, Mrs. Irene McCollom of Davenport, Mrs. Gertrude Mapes of Earlham, Mrs. Dorothy Bush of Winterset and Mrs. Helen Tolly and Mrs. Edna Addy of Des Moines. He also leaves 20 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Hope of Leon; and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Lyons of Winterset and Mrs. Grace Meadows of Gaylord, Kan. Two sons preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the Winterset Christian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
