Esther Akins, 77, of Lorimor, died Sept. 26, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 30, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton with the Rev. Steven Koch officiating. Burial was at Lorimor Cemetery.
Esther Akins was born July 16, 1927, in Germfask, Mich., to Ling Albert and Marguerite Esther (Swisher) Burns. She attended school in Manistique, Mich. On April 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alvin Clyde Akins in Germfask. They lived in Germfask for one year before moving to Lorimor in 1947, where they resided for 57 years. A homemaker, Esther was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset, Quilting Circle and Lorimor American Legion Auxiliary Unit 96.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Elmer Lavern Burns; and a sister, Donna Maxine Sampel.
She is survived by one daughter, Margie L. McPhillips; three sisters, Nettie Ackley, Nina Louise Barker and Adel Marie Martinez, all of Germfask, Mich.; two brothers, Robert Burns of Hartshorn, Mo., and Arnold Burns of Flint, Mich.; and three granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
