Thursday, December 14, 1944C. W. Hays, lifelong resident of the Worthington community, died at his home Monday, December 11. He had attained the age of 78 years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon with burial being made in the Worthington cemetery.
OBITUARY
Charles William Hays was born October 7, 1866 and departed from this life December 11, 1944 at the age of 78 years, two months and four days. On the 3rd day of July 1894 he was united in marriage to Matie Brown.
To mourn his passing he leaves his wife, Mrs. Matie Hays, three children, Mrs. Florence Garrett of Earlham, Eben Hays of Winterset, and Sgt. Charles Hays of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, besides a host of relatives and friends. One son Robert Hays preceded him in death in 1936.
Mr. Hays was born on the farm where he died and where he had lived his entire life. He was honest and upright in all his dealings. A kind loving father and husband devoting his life to the interests of his home.

Charles William Hays died December 11 at Earlham at the age of 78, after about the two-weeks’ illness. Mr. Hays was born at Earlham on October 7, 1866, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eb Hays, and has been a resident of Madison county all his life.
On July 4, 1894, he was married to Matie Brown of Earlham and to this union were born three sons and one daughter. A son, Robert, died in 1936.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Eben of Winterset and Charles who was in the Armed Forces; a daughter, Florence Garrett of Ireland; and a brother Thomas was in Montana.
Funeral services were held at Worthington December 13, at 2:00 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. Mills. Burial was made in the Worthington cemetery.
