Burness Collins, a long-time resident of Madison county, died Tuesday, July 12, 1966, at the age of 71 years.
Mr. Collins was a native of Missouri. He was born in Putnam county, February 20, 1895, a sons of Will H. and Etta Collins. He was married in 1914 to Lena E. Long. Most of their married life was spent in farming. His wife died in 1961. One child, a little girl died in infancy.
He leaves eight children, Tim Collins of Winterset, Mrs. Margaret Amundson of San Bernadino, California, Mrs. Winifred Shaffer of Waukee, Mrs. Evelyn Parker of Des Moines, Mrs. Frances Bush of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Bonnie Bassett of San Jose, California, Bernard Collins of Newton and Richard Collins of Van Meter.
He also leaves 26 grandchildren; nine great grandchilden; and seven brothers and sisters, Dana Collins, and Mrs. Ada Thomas of Des Moines, Mrs. Alice Backstrom of Indianola, George Collins of Arkansas, Mrs. Gertrude Jennings of Florida and Mrs. Alta Jeffries and Donald Collins of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held July 15 from the Fisher Funeral home in Van Meter, in charge of the Rev. Donald Jones. Burial was made in the Booneville cemetery.
