Ellis Holmes Died Sunday At Home

Ellis Holmes, 67, of rural Winterset, died Sunday, January 7 at his home. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, at the Early Chapel Church with Rev. Grundy Couch officiating and at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church at Guthrie Center. Burial was at the Union Cemetery at Guthrie Center with Rev. Jerry Palmer officiating, assisted by Rev. Couch.

Born in Benton County, Missouri on July 21, 1911, Mr. Holmes was the son of Charles A. and Anne Ellis Holmes. On July 3, 1943, he was married to Geneva Hafner at Guthrie Center. They moved to Winterset 16 years ago. Mr. Holmes was a farmer and attended the Early Chapel Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Wilbur. He is survived by his wife, a foster daughter, Karen Rogers, of Winterset, three sisters, Vera Holmes, Orpha Tierney and Mildred Dennis, all of Guthrie Center, and three foster grandchildren.
