August 9, 1978Educator REED JORDAN Dies at 72
Reed P. Jordan of Truro died at Knoxville August 6th, 1978 at the age of 72. He was born at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the son of Harmon J. Jordan and Naomi Payne Jordan, on January 7, 1906.
He was a graduate of Buena Vista College, Storm Lake and did graduate work at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and Drake.
He was married July 16, 1932 to Dorothy Wilson. He served as Superintendent of Schools at Maple Hill, Ellsworth, Pleasantville, Runnells and Truro, serving as Superintendent at Truro from 1950 to 1961. After the school was reorganized into I-35, he served as elementary principal, guidance counselor, teacher and junior high principal at Truro. In 1972 he retired from the public school systems, and served as Madison County Superintendent of Schools for five years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Truro. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Truro, a son Herrold and wife Marolyn of Knoxville, a son John and wife Carolee of St. Paul, Minnesota, a daughter Jan and husband, Dr. John Ankeny of Waukee, six grandchildren, a step-mother, Mrs. Alma Conrad of Arnolds Park, a brother Vernon Jordan of Des Moines, and two sisters, Dorothy Wood of Milford and Beulah Doundna of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Services were held from the Kale Funeral Home in Truro this Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with burial at Ebenezer Cemetery.
