Funeral services for Joseph Arthur King, a long-time farmer in the Irish Settlement northeast of Winterset, were held December 26 from St Patrick’s’ Church in Lee Township.
Mr. King died December 23 at Madison County Memorial Hospital. He was 76 years of age.
Mr. King was born in Madison County on November 25, 1898, a son of Joseph P. and Mary Dooley King.
On September 20, 1938 he was married to Helen Delles at Lenox, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Robert, Paul and Tom all of Cumming and John of Independence, Missouri; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Wilson of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Moore of Kent, Iowa, and Mrs. Helen Sabol of Rock Island, Illinois; 17 grandchildren: two brothers, Louis King of Rural St Charles and Walter King of Van Meter; and one sister, Mrs. Teressa Bishop of Ankeny.
Officiating at the 10:00 a.m. funeral rites was Father Frank Boganne. Burial was in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
