Claire E. Jones, 81, of Davenport, Iowa formerly of Earlham, Iowa, died at Manor Care Health Services in Davenport, Tuesday August 9, 2005. Claire was born June 21, 1924, in Earlham, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Stella (Beals) Jones.
Claire graduated from Earlham High School in 1942. He attended William Penn College for one year, where he met and married Marjorie B. Smith on August 5, 1945. Claire was a farmer for years in the Earlham area. In 1958, he went to work for Hunter Motor Company in Earlham. He retired from the dealership after 30 years of service.
Claire enjoyed watching all sports, working with wood and helping others. He served as a teacher and was in many leadership positions at Bear Creek Friends Church. Claire and Marjorie faithfully supported OMS International and many other mission organizations over the years. Above all, Claire loved the Lord and led a godly life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Claire was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, his brother Wayne Jones, and his sister Edna Lamb. He is survived by a son. Fred (Carol) Jones of Kingfisher, OK; three daughters, Gaynelle (Bruce) Kirkberg of Davenport, IA; Marilee (Steve) Savage of Winona, OH; and Marla (Brian) Cole of West Des Moines, IA; two brothers, Kenneth Jones of Glendale, AZ and Howard (Delores) Jones of Earlham, IA; ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
