Carroll Fred Noland

Carroll F. Noland was born the son of Fred and Nora Cook Noland at the family home in Dickinson County, Iowa on September 3, 1915 and died at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa on September 28, 2004 at the age of 89 years and 25 days.

Carroll attended high school in Earlham and served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a non-combatant soldier. On September 10, 1941, Carroll and Pauline Smith were married in Kirksville, Missouri. This union was blessed with three sons: Joseph, James and Donald.

Carroll was a self-employed contractor who built and remodeled houses, made cabinets and furniture in the Des Moines area before retiring in 1982. Carol was a member of the Bear Creek Friends Church of rural Earlham and a member of First Friends Church of Des Moines, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing and making clocks and furniture for family and friends. Carol especially enjoyed the family summer vacations to the cabin at Lake Vermillion in Minnesota.. After retirement Carroll and Pauline wintered in Texas and Florida for 12 years.

Carroll is survived by his wife Pauline Noland of Adel, Iowa; sons Joseph Noland and wife Linda of Des Moines, Iowa; son James Noland and wife Linda Murken of Gilbert, Iowa; son Donald Noland and wife Marlene of Des Moines, Iowa; brother Gail Noland and wife Mabel of Carlisle, Iowa; sister Wanda Parker of Rockford, Illinois, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Carol (Carroll) was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Wayne Noland.
